Sometimes web-browsing Mormons (and non-Mormons) are confronted by people who make claims, charges, accusations, or just observations about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), their leaders, their scripture, their history, their practices, or their beliefs. Because of the ever-increasing size of the Web it is not always apparent, when encountering a new name in Mormon discussions, who are the sheep and who are the wolves.
In an attempt to help those who become engaged in LDS discussions, Ive tired to sort the more prolific Web contributors (both pro and con LDS) into respective categories. For the pro-LDS camp, Ive included email addresses, web pages, as well as occasional comments and some of their publications (the lists are by no means exhaustive).
For the con-LDS camp (those which generally might be called anti-Mormon), Ive listed their names, occasionally comments, and some of their publications. It becomes quickly apparent that I have not included email address, nor links to web sites of the con-LDS camp. Im sure Ill be criticized by some for not giving fair representation to LDS critics, or perhaps cries of censorship, but because Im convinced that we are in a battle against Satan for souls, I wont assist his cause by directing people to those things which attempt to destroy or disparage Christs gospel (I should note here that this doesnt imply that all those who are critical of the Church are Satanic or are seeking to destroy the Church -- or that I feel that Im engaged in warfare with critics. I do admit, however, to believing in the reality of Satan and his desire to use whatever means necessary to draw people away from the restored Gospel). As the Apostle Paul wrote: We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12). The only reason I list some of the critical publications are for reasons of reference (so those spotting these sources during LDS-related discussion will recognize their anti-Mormon, or Mormon-critical bias).
In addition to listing most of the more outspoken LDS apologists and critics, Ive attempted to list some of the authors of the more popular pro and con LDS publications from which many LDS apologists or LDS critics quote. In many cases I simply list publications in which the authors have contributed articles, and it is not to be suggested that they are the sole authors of that publication (for example, in the section of publications under the name of a particular character, I might simply list BYU Studies vX:X rather than listing their article within that publication).
Lastly... since Mormon Fortress is dedicated to defending The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints against those who would attack it, I do provide references-- and/or links-- (in green) to LDS rebuttals of anti-Mormon publications or websites.
Web activity ratings are based each characters frequency of participating in discussion groups, message boards, email lists, or other on-line LDS-related activities.
(The term, Good, Bad, & Ugly, do not necessarily reflect the character or appearance of the people which they categorize, but rather their approach to Mormonism.)
